Get over to Corktown-A-Glow and celebrate the holidays Dec. 9

Corktown is getting ready to celebrate the holidays, and you’re invited.

The second annual Corktown-A-Glow begins at noon on Saturday, Dec. 9. It’s a day-long holiday celebration thrown by the Corktown Business Association and local business owners to bring the community together. You can shop and eat, of course, but there will also be caroling, hot cocoa, a free photo booth with Santa, and a festive tree lighting ceremony at 6 p.m.

The event itself is free and includes a complimentary shuttle to several businesses. The Holiday Shop Tour Shuttle, made possible by Nemo’s, runs from noon to 6 p.m. Beginning at 5 p.m. you can catch it over to Bagley and Trumbull for the tree lighting ceremony and holiday activities.

You can pick up the shuttle at local businesses including:

Look for the special discounts, holiday drinks and dishes at area businesses.

Make sure you grab some sheet music for caroling. You can even bring your own jingle bells.

Warm up by the fire and roast marshmallows courtesy of The Farmer’s Hand and enjoy hot chocolate, courtesy of Mudgie’s Deli.

You’ll also have a chance to give back. Bring along new, unwrapped toys for children and socks for the homeless or new or gently used books for the Detroit Police Department’s Little Libraries.

Items will be collected during Corktown-a-Glow and provided to DPD for distribution to families in need.

You can also enter Corktown-a-Glow’s BINGO raffle to win gift card giveaways from Corktown shops, bars and restaurants. Just fill out a shopping passport on the day of the event and you’re entered.

Happy holidays!
