Grandmont Rosedale encourages Detroit to “shop small”

It’s the Saturday after Thanksgiving and malls are full.

Parking lots are crowded, lines are long and there’s more flesh pressed between the isles than leftover turkey between wheat and mayo. You’ve got family and friends on a holiday gift list, but you don’t want any part of this scene. So what’s the alternative?

Detroiters love the unique shops of the Grandmont Rosedale area, which in addition to offering an array of unique gift items, offer a warm and welcoming atmosphere where business owners often know their customers’ names. Photo courtesy of Grandmont Rosedale

“Shop Small in GRANDmont Rosedale” welcomes one and all to shops along Grand River in the west-side community from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 25.

Featuring Shop pop-up vendors, arts & crafts, live entertainment, author readings and book signings, and more, the event supports Small Business Saturday. In recent years, entrepreneurs and neighborhood business owners have campaigned to generate customer support during the bustling holiday spending season, and Grandmont Rosedale Development Corp. has joined the effort.

Small shops are the mainstay of our neighborhoods. Open the door and look inside and you will discover dreamers and doers who embody the spirit and energy of Detroit’s entrepreneurial class. We invite you to meet them inside our Small Shops series, sponsored by Bank of America.
